Live drawing in New York
Véronique Jacquart
Live Sketching from Miami to New York
For a year now, I’ve been lucky enough to live in New York. After six years in Miami, we felt the need to return to New York, with its seasons (autumn is magical here), vibrant activities, striking beauty, and of course, all the professional opportunities and luxury events the city has to offer.
Working in New York represents a new challenge… I need to find new customers and promote my talents as a portrait illustrator in this city.
Fortunately, there’s no shortage of opportunities in Manhattan. From Madison Avenue to Saks, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s, not forgetting the gala season… I’ve got everything I need to start prospecting!
New York, the city of artists
FAQ
A live portrait event is an animation often organized by event companies, luxury brands’ event services, or wedding planners for weddings or private parties. It involves bringing in an artist capable of drawing guests’ portraits live. To accommodate as many people as possible during the event, the portrait artist must be able to draw portraits quickly, typically between 10 and 20 minutes per portrait.
The artist is usually a freelancer who works directly with brands, event companies, or through an agent. After accepting the quote, the live illustrator arranges travel and accommodations, leaving event organizers free to focus on event planning.
The artist brings their drawing equipment (digital or traditional) and usually only requires a table and chair.
Live portrait drawing offers a unique experience beyond simple entertainment. Sitting for an artist is engaging, and receiving their interpretation of oneself can be profound. It’s a highly rewarding activation, focusing on the elegance of the gesture and accurately capturing guests’ faces. Attendees leave with a hand-drawn portrait, making it a highlight of the event and a memorable keepsake.
Cost varies based on the artist’s reputation, typically ranging between $1500 and $2000 per day for an experienced artist.
Flexibility is crucial in event planning; you can book me at short notice if no travel is involved. However, most clients book me one to two months in advance.
I require a table and chair.
Ideally, I prefer a quiet but visible location for guests.
Premium venues, branded furniture, and floral arrangements enhance the experience. Offering champagne to guests during drawing sessions helps them relax and gives me time to complete the portraits and interact with them.
I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned luxury brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bulgari, Chaumet, Tiffany, as well as leading pharmaceutical and tech companies such as Galderma, Allergan, Solta Medical, and LinkedIn.
While finding competent artists in New York is easy, never compromise on drawing quality. Guests should feel elegant and celebrated, and it’s essential for the artist to engage with them, creating a special moment and personalized experience. It’s not just about drawing but truly connecting your brand with your guests.
